Peter was a true follower of Christ and yet he was also a back slider.
Matt. 26:58; "But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest's palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end."

Christs own words of warning to the saved;
Matthew 26:41, Watch ye and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
Mark 14:38, Watch ye and pray, LEST YE ENTER TEMPTATION. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.
Those were indeed Jesus' words, but to men still unable to walk in the Spirit instead of in the flesh.
Until Jesus was crucified, buried and raised from the dead, nobody could.
Thankfully, God has provided us with water baptism into Christ and into His death and burial, so we too can be raised with Him to walk in newness of life. (Rom 6:3-6)
The results?
"For he that is dead is freed from sin." (Rom 6:7)

If we are in Christ we must be born again, if we are born again we are new creations, as new creations we are not controlled by sin.
We can still sin but not as before when our minds were sin oriented. The problem is too few people that claim salvation in Christ Jesus have never been born again. They are still in their old body trying to live as before but hoping to go to heaven. Jesus will tell them to depart from Him he never knew them. To be know by Christ we MUST be born again, a new creation.

Plus, our new divine nature and the Spirit of God within us will always keep us walking in the light.
We can still sin but not as before when our minds were sin oriented.
If we sin, we were not reborn of God's seed.

There is no difference between those folks and the ones you described above.
Full-time and part-time sinners will get the same words from the Lord..."Depart from me, ye that work iniquity". (Matt 7:23)

It is a challenging concept of how faith could be measured especially since faith is substance of what is hoped for and evidence of what is not seen. How does one measure overall faith? Even thinking about great faith versus little faith is a concept that seems a challenge to grasp yet scripture speaks of both and illustrates the results of them.

One can choose to sin and turn from God as scripture teaches in numerous places, but the sinner is no longer abides in God's seed as the devil is their master. We must never equate one in sin to a saint of God. Each has a different master. The sinner is serving the devil and the saint serves God.

To whom a man yields himself to they are his master whether righteousness or unrighteousness. As long as you are obedient and abide in God's seed (word of God) you are not in sin and won't sin as long as you abide in Him. If you choose to not abide in Him and sin you are no longer His. (1 Jn 2:1, 2 Pet 1:5-10) One must not grow cold or they can be overcome by sin again.
