Take the Bible literally..
Reverend Dake was firm about taking the Word LITERALLY.
Where symbolic language is being used like Jesus being a door or a Woman clothed with the sun etc. he said to look for the literal truth the symbolic language is teaching.
Not to spiritualize the Word.
In the 1800's many fell into the spiritualize trap.
And more false cults and wierd neo christian sects were established
in the 19th century than ever before in that short time.
Every false "ism" of today was born in that day.

Re: Take the Bible literally..
Literally how? Literal from a 1st Century Jew to a 1st-century culture under Roman occupation? Or literal from a more recent translation to a 21st century culture that shares little in context with the original intent?

Re: Take the Bible literally..
Reverend Dake observed this principle in over 100,000 hours of Bible study:
Take the Bible literally wherein it is at all possible;if symbolic, figurative or typical language is used, look for the literal truth it intends to convey.
Do you believe the Bible is the Inspired Word of God???

Re: Take the Bible literally..
I understand that concept, but what I am suggesting is that a literal meaning to a 1st century Jew, living under Roman occupation is very often different from what a literal meaning would be to a 21st person who has no idea of context or culture.
