bibleman,
re: "Well mainly because it is when MOST Christian churches meet in America."

OK, just so it's understood that scripture is silent with regard to anyone meeting on the 1st days of the week for the purpose of rest and worship.
Well no, not understood at all BUT to the contrary...

Acts 20:7 And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight. (KJV)

The fault in Bible complications is not with God or the Bible, but with men who refuse to believe what God says and think we have to interpret what He says in order to get the meaning. Dake Bible -Mark 11:17 note

1 Corinthians 16:1-2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay him by in store as God hath prospered him that there be no gatherings when i come.

What about all the other days Paul met with the disciples and preached? Are those days of worship and gathering and should saints make any one of those days the day of gathering or worship? No doubt an interesting dichotomy.

branham1965,
re: "1 Corinthians 16:1-2..."

1 Corinthians 16 does not say that the Corinthians met together on the first day of the week. The text merely says that everyone should "lay by him in store" on the first day of the week. The Wemouth reads: "Let each of you put on one side and store up at his home". Ballantine's Translation reads: "Let each of you lay up at home". The Syriac on this passage reads: "Let every one of you lay aside and preserve at home". And the New Catholic Edition of the Bible reads: "....let each one of you put aside at home and lay up whatever he has a mind to". This verse says nothing about going to services on the first day or even getting together on the first day.

I disagree.Read Acts 20:7.

Church History affirms the Church met on Sunday.

See the notes on Sunday or Sabbath in the Dake Bible.

See my comment to you in my above post regarding Acts 20:7. Also, see luchnia's post above with regard to the verse.

re: "Church History affirms the Church met on Sunday."

And scripture says that too - but only 2 times, and neither time said it was for the purpose of rest and worship or that it was to be a continuing activity on the 1st day of the week.

re: "See the notes on Sunday or Sabbath in the Dake Bible."

I don't have access to that publication. Do the notes identify scripture that says that meeting for rest and worship on the 1st day of the week was a continuing activity that was observed by the believers?

Yes it is in Reverend Dake's Bible and his book God's Plan For Man.

The Early Church Fathers also taught a Sunday meeting.

If you do not believe that way that is your right and business.

So what scriptures has he identified which show that meeting for rest and worship on the 1st day of the week was an ongoing activity that was observed by the believers week after week?
