Profitable Ways To Study

Post by branham1965 »

" You would think that any time spent answering questions about the Bible :| +ummm

would automatically be profitable. But apparently this is not the case. The Apostle Paul evidently knew the difference between profitable and unprofitable times spent together in the study of God's Word.

He specifically made a difference between study was unto profit and arguments which became destructive.

But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions ,and strivings about the law;for they are unprofitable and vain. Titus 3:9

He similarly advised Timothy :

But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that the do gender strifes. 2 Timothy 2:23

Why are we setting out to study the Scripture in terms of question and answer when we have before us such clear warnings? We are doing something different. Our attitude of approach is one of openness and desire to learn. We come admitting we do not know everything -at least not yet.Our questions are not foolish or unlearned but based on considerable preparation of both the instructors and the students. We come together to share what we have learned.Honest questions arising from careful preperation will stimulate everyone else to profit.

Paul was all for the right kind of study. He exhorted Timothy with these strong words:
Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.Study to show thyself approved unto God a workman that needeth not be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth.

We are not to argue about words. The Bible is more than words,it is life and the power of God to change us, if we let it.Words are the vehicle of Spirit and truth..."

Yes it is. And if you check the bottom of the post, you'll see that James Lee Beall was quoted.

Yes i showed he said this from a book he wrote.

He knew (as shown in his quote above)as my Pastor did...that much of the discussion about religion and the Scriptures and the debates and arguments, the cliques, the bantering about, the mind games , the digs, the sly comments, the patronizing etc. etc.

are not of the Spirit of God but of the flesh and even ....worse. :evilbat:
