Depends upon whether or not you mean by "imperitive" that it is a requirement in order to be saved.
If yes, then no.
Do you really beleive that someone with no evidence of "having been saved" will be saved ?
I don't.

Isn't believing on the Lord Jesus Christ enough?

Acts 16:31 New King James Version
So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

1st John 5:1a New King James Version
Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God...

Yet, even faith is evidence of salvation, rather than the cause of salvation.
Salvation is of the Lord, by grace.

James 4:17 New Living Translation
Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.

The devil believes, but his testimony and evidences don't manifest Jesus' work on earth.
Just saying one believes is not enough for salvation.
Life must illustrate that belief.

You are correct that faith is not enough for salvation. Faith without works is similar to the faith of devils. Faith with works relies on works.

Faith is a weighty matter of the Law (Matt. 23:23). Righteousness does not come by law keeping. Otherwise, Christ died in vain (Gal. 2:21; Gal. 5:4).

If grace were extended to the devil, things might be different for him.

Salvation is by grace, not by faith. By grace through faith, yes. But, not by faith.

Living faith is an evidence of salvation. Dead faith is not. But, neither is the cause of salvation.

The fruit of faith is works.
Faith is a weighty matter of the Law (Matt. 23:23). Righteousness does not come by law keeping. Otherwise, Christ died in vain (Gal. 2:21; Gal. 5:4).

Who knows ?
Salvation is by grace, not by faith. By grace through faith, yes. But, not by faith.

The causes of salvation are many.
The lack of any one of which will end up in condemnation.
Thanks be to God for the ability to "run the race".
